Bringing to life a charity where every voice matters

Voices Foundation is a charity that exists to transform how music is taught in schools. Reshaping music education so every child can find their voice, the charity aims to support children through unlocking their musical ability, developing core skills and improving their wellbeing.

Whilst Voices have always been driven by a clear mission, their previous brand articulation lacked the means to convey the sense of vibrancy and transformative nature of what they do.

We worked with the team to help develop a new proposition and brand to reflect their incredible work and the joy they bring to children of all educational needs and backgrounds.

Brand

We were able to rebuild their brand from the ground up, beginning with a new proposition – 'Transforming music education so that every child can find their voice'. This laid the foundations for a characterful visual identity that would speak to their in-class audiences, whilst equipping them with a consistent and clear message that they could continue to take to senior stakeholders and policy makers.

With the delivery of a new logo and dynamic kit of visual elements that can be connected in a number of ways, Voices Foundation are now equipped with the tools to showcase what they do with as much life and character as the musical experiences that they deliver.

Energetic ‘i’

To bring personality and energy to the Voices brand, we created the energetic ‘i’. Using the ‘i’ from the Voice’s logo to sing, drum, dance, conduct and DJ. Representing the many ways children can use the power of music to find their unique ‘voice’.

Process

We kicked off the project with various workshops to help us better understand the existing brand, its purpose and the people that make up the organisation. From these insights we had a better understanding of who they are, what their challenges are and creative springboards for us to take forward in the brand development.

We began the creative development with first exploring routes around these springboards before landing on our big idea of ‘Intangible superpower’. This really resonated with Voices and their stakeholders. They often encounter many misconceptions on what music is, who it is for and the impact it generates. Even in teaching, music can still sometimes be mistaken as a talent you either have or you don’t. The experience enables students to find their unique voice, developing confidence, wellbeing and skills in the process.

With this in mind we aimed to inject as much energy and movement into the visual language as possible. Ending with a brand that is full of life with music rooted deeply at the centre. A colour palette that feels vibrant and joyful, along with a brand toolkit that can now confidently support the amazing work the team at Voices do.
